Hypnosis Can Free You
Labour/delivery
Hypnosis can be very useful for relaxation and pain relief during labour and delivery. Some women are able to use hypnosis to the extent that they feel absolutely no pain during labour and delivery, or they replace the pain with feelings of warmth or numbness. Others report that pain is diminished and they're able to stay on top of it quite easily. They enjoy feeling more in control of their bodies, being active participants in the births, rather than submissive patients.
It's natural for women to feel some anxiety and worry when they are expecting babies, especially if they had any difficulties in previous experiences. Hypnosis can be used to help women remain patient in the latter stages of pregnancy, quite happy to wait calmly for The Big Day. This can help reduce the need for interventions because they are not pushing their doctors to induce labour if they are near full term. Inducing labour can bring about the need for further interventions, each with its own set of risks - and a C-section is one of them. And this, of course, has its own potential for complications.
Hypnosis can also strengthen the bond that you already have with your unborn baby, as you will be given the opportunity to send messages of love and welcoming to your child.
I recommend two sessions, during which I will teach you how to use hypnosis in preparation for labour and delivery. It will also teach you techniques that you can use in various other aspects of your life. Some people require a third session, but this is quite rare.
I must say that I speak from personal experience here, too. I had three nightmare labours and deliveries, all of which were induced, which led to retained placentas (neither the babies nor their placentas were ready to come out!) - which then led to life-threatening haemorrhages (I was a medical miracle on one of those occasions; I was not expected to survive). I had also endured very long, painful labours (up to 37 hours) and was dreading the whole experience when I became pregnant a fourth time.
By then, I'd had hypnosis for other issues (dental work, memory recall of an accident, stopping smoking) and because it had been very successful on all other occasions, I decided to try it for my pregnancy. I needed help with the fear and anxiety I was feeling regarding the impending birth, and I wanted pain relief for labour (I'm a big baby!).
I was astonished by how much it helped! No longer was I stressed and anxious about the impending birth and I was able to spend the last few months of my pregnancy actually enjoying it. I was content to wait for the birth and would not take the doctor up on his offers to induce, as I'd done the previous three times.
The labour was far shorter than the others and was an entirely different experience in several ways. I was amazed by how much easier it was to get through the contractions and stayed very calm and relaxed in between each one, as well. And because I waited till I started labour naturally, and did not allow an induction, there was no issue with a retained placenta and no haemorrhage - life-threatening or otherwise!
If only I'd had hypnosis before the first delivery!!!
