Hypnosis Can Free You
Dental Work
Dental work can send even the bravest person into a state of anxiety or even panic. For some reason, it seems most of us have a natural aversion to having someone work on our teeth, even when the work will not be painful (eg. exams or a cleaning).
I was one of those... after some unpleasant childhood memories of a short-tempered dentist, I was terrified for years. In 1983, I found a dentist who used hypnosis with his patients. Having used hypnosis successfully to stop smoking three years earlier, I had to give it a try.
It was WONDERFUL! He told me that the night before a dental appointment, I would be relaxed and calm, that I would sleep really well, that I would be fine throughout every appointment from then on. I remember it like it was yesterday... And he was right. I have never been bothered by dental appointments since. It doesn't even take much of a state of hypnosis; in a dental chair, I achieve just a very light state of hypnosis and it's all I need to see me through. I wouldn't care if they took out my appendix; I'm quite happy to lie back in the chair till they're finished.
For most people, two sessions will get you to that point and it can last a lifetime. And as a bonus, the techniques you will be taught can be used in other aspects of your life as well.
Some people use hypnosis to have dental work - and even surgery - without anaesthesia. It takes a fair bit of preparation but it can be done.
